From New York to Myrtle Beach: A Realtor’s Journey of Dedication and Service

How 48 Years in Real Estate Shaped My Career and Commitment to My Clients

Real estate isn’t just my career—it’s my calling. It all started in my hometown of Rochester, New York, when I was just 17 years old. I had a vision, a passion for helping people, and the determination to build a career that would allow me to serve my community. Today, after 48 years in the industry, my journey has taken me from New York to Myrtle Beach, and I wouldn’t change a thing.

If you’re considering buying or selling in the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand, I’d love to put my decades of experience to work for you. Call or text me at 843-999-6565 or email trobusto@gmail.com.

The Early Years: A Young Realtor with a Big Dream

I got my start in real estate in 1976, but my love for this industry began even earlier. My mother was a Realtor, and I watched her effortlessly connect with people, helping families achieve their dreams of homeownership. She made it look easy, but I quickly learned that success in real estate requires dedication, market knowledge, and an unwavering commitment to clients.

At 17, I attended Rochester Business Institute (RBI) while working nights in real estate. By the time I turned 18, I had already scheduled my state and federal real estate exams—and I passed. Receiving my license at such a young age was a defining moment for me. It wasn’t just about selling houses; it was about serving the community and guiding people through one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.

In 1984, after years of experience and success, I became a licensed real estate broker. This wasn’t just another title—it was proof of my dedication and expertise in the field.

A Lifelong Commitment to Excellence

Real estate is an industry that is always evolving. Over the years, I have continually adapted to the latest trends, laws, and technologies. I attended night school to obtain my Appraisal License, which allowed me to work directly with banks, appraising homes for mortgages.

I also served on the Wayne County Board of Realtors in the mid-1990s and was honored to be named Realtor of the Year in 1997. But these achievements weren’t just about me—they were about my commitment to my clients and my fellow Realtors. I believe in staying ahead of the curve, which is why I have always invested in my education, attending real estate seminars across the country to ensure I provide my clients with the best service possible.

My dedication led me to earn the title of Realtor Emeritus in 2018, a designation recognizing over 40 years of service in the industry.

A New Chapter: Myrtle Beach Becomes Home

For decades, I visited Myrtle Beach for golf and vacations. Something about the 61 miles of shoreline, award-winning golf courses, vibrant culture, and unbeatable lifestyle kept drawing me back. In 2017, I finally decided it was time to invest in this beautiful area, and by April 2019, I took my South Carolina real estate exam and received my license.

But finding the right brokerage was important to me. After working with four different firms throughout my career, I knew exactly what I was looking for. That’s when I joined Realty One Group Dockside—a brokerage that provides the marketing tools, support, and leadership that truly empower agents and benefit clients.

In July 2019, I moved into my new home—a home that I had unknowingly designed back in the 1980s. It was incredible to see that the vision I had for my dream home decades ago had come to life. Today, in 2025, I am finally building the Carolina Room I’ve always wanted—proof that patience and persistence pay off.

What 48 Years Has Taught Me About Real Estate

Even after nearly five decades in this industry, I know that success comes from continual growth. That’s why I’ve always worked with a real estate coach to stay on track and deliver five-star service to my clients.

In 2019, I became a Power Agent, a designation held by only 1% of all agents in North America. Think of it like this—just as CPAs are the highest level of accountants, a Power Agent represents the top tier of real estate professionals. This means my clients get the best negotiation skills, market strategies, and cutting-edge tools available in today’s market.

Thinking About Selling? Let’s Talk!

Selling your home is more than just a transaction—it’s a major life decision. With nearly 50 years of experience, I know how to price your home right, market it effectively, and negotiate the best deal for you.

Whether you’re selling your primary residence or an investment property in Myrtle Beach, I would be honored to put my experience to work for you.
